Political Journey	Sworn in as deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on 16 October 2024. Won the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election from Nowshera constituency in 2024 representing the National Conference party. Transitioned from BJP to National Conference in July 2023 after leaving the BJP. Resigned from PDP and joined BJP in April 2022, where he served as general secretary. Previously served as a member of the Legislative Council from the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party. Attempted to secure a seat in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections in 2014 and 2008 but faced defeats. Sworn in as 9th Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on 16 October 2024. 1. Surinder spent 17 years as the president of the Non-Teaching Employees Association at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu.
2. In 1995-96, he advocated for establishing a separate agriculture university for the Jammu region.
3. He resigned from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology in 2008.
4. In the 2008 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, he received 12,500 votes, finishing as runner-up.
5. In 2023, he accused BJP leader Ravinder Raina of nepotism and corruption, prompting his departure from BJP.
6. In 2024, he secured a victory over Ravinder Raina by a margin of 7,819 votes in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections.
7. Before entering politics, he was an employee of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu.
