Controversies	He was arrested 5 times during the JP Movement and the Emergency. In 1974, he challenged the constitutional validity of Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). Defamation case against Rahul Gandhi: In March 2023, he filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi at the court of Patna’s Chief Judicial Magistrate over Mr. Gandhi’s “Modi surname” remark in Karnataka’s Kolar while campaigning for Parliamentary elections in 2019 following which the court summoned Mr Gandhi to appear before it on 12 April 2023 to record his statement.

He was born in Patna, Bihar, into a Marwari (Vaishya Bania) family.
In 1962, he joined the RSS, a right-wing Hindu organization.
During the Sino-Indian War of 1962, he trained students and civilians for the Civil Defence as Commandant.
In 1968, he completed the 3-year Officer Training Course, the highest RSS training course.
After matriculation, he worked full-time for the RSS and later became In-charge of evening branches in Patna Town.
Despite his family being in the readymade garments business, he chose to serve the people instead.
He was elected as the General Secretary of the Student’s Union of Patna University in 1973.
He was arrested five times during the JP Movement and Emergency.
He was imprisoned in various locations for 19 months beginning on June 30, 1975.
He led a movement against foreign infiltrators in Bihar's bordering districts.
In 2000, he supported the creation of the State of Jharkhand.
He met his wife, Jessie George, during his time in the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Despite family objections, they married in 1987.
On April 3, 2024, he announced on Twitter that he would not contest the Lok Sabha elections due to health issues.
He passed away on May 13, 2024, in AIIMS, New Delhi, after battling cancer.
