Latest News about Pope Francis
Pope Francis was discharged from Rome's Gemelli Hospital on March 23, 2025, after 38 days of treatment for double pneumonia. Doctors said he was in a stable clinical condition and prescribed at least two months of rest and continued partial drug therapy during convalescence at the Vatican.
The Vatican reported a further slight improvement in Pope Francis' condition while he remained hospitalized for double pneumonia. Doctors said a CT scan showed a normal evolution of the lung inflammation and that the mild renal insufficiency previously noted had receded, although his prognosis remained cautious.
The Vatican said Pope Francis had entered a critical phase of illness after suffering a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis at Gemelli Hospital. He required high-flow oxygen and blood transfusions after tests showed thrombocytopenia linked to anemia, and officials said he was not out of danger.
