Political Journey	In 2004, she ran for the South Carolina House of Representatives for a district in Lexington County. In 2004, she became the 1st Indian-American to hold the office after winning the Primary and the General Election. In 2006, she was re-elected unopposed and also defeated her Democrat challenger in 2008. On 2 November 2010, she was elected Governor from the South Carolina. On 4 November 2014, she was re-elected Governor form the South Carolina. On January 24, 2017, she resigned as governor of South Carolina to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations that she quit on December 31, 2018. In July 2022, she hinted at a run for president in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, and on February 14, 2023, she officially announced her candidacy. On 4 March 2024, she won the Republican primary in Washington DC. On 4 November 2014, she was re-elected Governor from the South Carolina. On 3 March 2024, she became the first woman and first Asian-American to win a Republican presidential primary with her victory in the District of Columbia primary. On 6 March 2024, she suspended her presidential campaign following Super Tuesday, finishing as the last serious challenger to Donald Trump. In 2024, she joined Edelman Global Advisory as Vice Chair. On 14 April 2026, she confirmed she will not run for the U.S. presidency in 2028.
